Meet the Joy Makers: Quirky Academy CIC

Quirky Academy CIC is a local not-for-profit company that uses recycled or recyclable materials and paints to create and collaborate on upcycling and creative workshops. They have recently made their home at Joy; they have a creative studio that runs creative workshops in schools, community centres and festivals, and uses environmentally conscious materials.

From creative murals, public art installations, large restoration commission projects and hand-painted furniture for hire and sale. Quirky CIC transforms materials into unusual custom painted projects, encouraging boldness with each piece they create. They run lots of family-friendly events, and have already had great success over the summer with the Climate Conscious Family Fun Day. They are currently running a weekly scrapbook challenge workshop every Saturday for young people and families to get involved, be creative and connect with others.

Rachel Smith-Evans, the founder, says ‘I’m excited to be at Joy because we can increase our impact, work with the community of Birkenhead and get to know everybody in the Joy community’.

They are also training up their recently recruited member of the team…Buckley the Saluki! He is a ten-month-old dog-in-training to be a therapy dog. Make sure you keep up with Buckley’s journey and watch him grow with the Quirky team.

We can’t wait to see what Quirky CIC does next here at Joy. For more information head to their instagram.
